From somewhere in the Pacific, where the Navy stands tall and the drug runners are scared. The USS Dewert FFG-45 Fast Frigate is corraling slimey drug runners and when there is some free time, they are catching billfish. Here is the latest photo from an unknown location in the Pacific. I couldn't believe my eyes ... I caught this sailfish on a number 10 hook on Halloween morning ... he was on his way to a fancy dress ball dressed as a bloom'in swan. I released him again to fight another day! |

Andrew Maedel dropped the bait back and the fish went crazy. The sailfish jumped, shook its head, and dove to great depths, but it was no match for the fishing team. We conquered the amazing fish within thirty minutes. |

Nick Maedel's (age 15) first sail

July 5th: Fishing aboard the Widows Mite, Captain David Stringfield, a rat blue picked up the left flatline, jumped twice, 8 feet in the air and threw the hook. At the same time the left long rigger went off. Nick took the rod to the chair and angled the large sail for 20 minutes. When brought to the boat the sail had been hooked but, was only leader lassoed arount the tail! His twin brother Andrew took the photo. The sail was tagged, revived and released. |

6/26/04 The Lori Marie started fishing at the ledge and immediately tagged and released a sailfish. As soon as the lines went back in we had a 25# wahoo. The next fish to crash the party was a 150-200# blue marlin on the short flat. After a brief aerial display the blue pulled the hook. The fast start faded to barracudas and slow fishing.
