  October 2002 - Year End

What a way to go out for the year end. . Closing the record book with the greatest offshore fishing year in the history of the club with a total accumulation of 6550 pants by "Double Trouble" and 5975 points for "Shark Bait". Even the 3rd place points of Sailfish II, (2765) was something to be proud of.

A few years back all of this was unthinkable! Congratulations to all our winners for the past year. Fish tales like Don Comb's "Shark Bait" catching 9 Swordfish, and Brnyt Fuller's "Sailfish II" tagging 7 in one overnight trip, and "Double Trouble's" 287 pounder, are fantastic nowadays. With the help of Jim Blalock's computer, elsewhere it this newsletter you'll find a recap for the past few years total points since 1995. Check 'em out!

Look's like 2002/2003 will be no slouch either, Pirate King recently released 3 Swordfish, DoodleBug had 2, and Zulu Canoe tagged 1. Weather permitting, we have the Tuna Mini Tournament all set for this weekend, let's keep the record breaking trend mentioned above, going into the new year.

MOST IMPORTANT ...... The Year-End Awards Banquet is set for next Wednesday evening October 16th at 7 p.m.at the Radisson Ponce De Leon, on US 1 North, St. Augustine. Don't miss it. t's the only event of the year for our club where there's both weeping, wailing and Hallelujah shouting! Losers weeping and wailing, and winners shouting. Fellas, put on your best duds (coats & ties!) and according to the invitation, ladies accordingly - (my wife won't wear a coat or tie)! Each member gets 2 tickets, additional tickets for others are available at the door for $30. See you there.

Beginning January 1st, all new members will have to pay an initiation fee to join our club. The fee will be equal to the dues in effect for both general and associates members. Not to worry though, this does NOT apply to current or prior members to NEFMA.

Speaking of dues, membership renewal fees (dues) were due on October 1st and they must be timely paid or any fish caught will not be counted towards awards.

One important note - there will be NO general meeting in November. Our next get together will be our Christmas party an December 12th, more on this event later.

From the ballyhoo department...

If you want to rent the Marlin Clubhouse, there's a new (?) fells to call - David Ledford. David's the man in charge, call bim at 829-2957... If he's unavailable, leave him a message.

Welcome New general members, Jerry Streeper of Green Cove Springs. Jerry's boat is the "Santana" and it's a 29 Boston Whaler. Also new member Bryce Hadlow, from Neptune Beach. He's the owner of the "Early Bird", a 38 Knowles, and Nancy White of the JackPot, has come aboard as an associate. Welcome, You'all.. we're glad to have you!

Gotta say thanks to the El Pescado directors for the NEFMA invite to the Friday evening cocktail event during their recent tournament, sponsored by Jax Yacht Sales and Coleman Insurance. A good time was had by all... Thanks fellas!

Next year I won't be such a tightwad about the El Pescado - those words have been ringin in my ears ever since Tom Greenhalgh, Robbie Sabastin and I hooked a Sail and a Blue (and had Blue another up), in the middle of THEIR tournament, Hmmmm, maybe next year!

If you have something for this letter, use the telly and ring me at 824-1560 or e-mail me at mwr@power-link.com!

Sincerely your editor,
Marshall Rowland
